EXTRA PROGRAM - WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

AYSO EXTRA

AYSO EXTRA: Competitive Soccer, Community Price

For skilled, motivated players, AYSO EXTRA delivers the challenge of club soccer without the overwhelming cost and travel. Players train with comparably skilled teammates, compete across Southern California, and grow in a positive, family-friendly culture.

Why choose EXTRA over Club or staying in Rec?

  • High-level competition vs. top AYSO teams in Sections 1, 10 & 11 (Southern California Extra Development Soccer League).
  • Far more affordable than Club—professional trainers & upgraded uniforms included in Extra fees.
  • Top coaching—AYSO certifications and standards equivalent to Club; positive, development-first environment.
  • More soccer, smart schedule—Fall & Spring seasons, tournaments/camps/clinics, without extreme travel/time demands.
  • Team & coach continuity—build chemistry and confidence with the same core group.
  • Community-based—local fields, friends, and families; about half of games at home.

EXTRA vs. Rec vs. Club

Program Competition Cost Coaching Season / Time Community / Travel
AYSO Rec Fun & developmental, mixed skills Low Volunteer, AYSO-certified Fall (Spring optional) Local, minimal travel

EXTRA delivers the challenge your player wants—without the cost and grind of Club.

Program Details

What is EXTRA?

AYSO EXTRA is a competitive, affordable program designed to prepare players for high school and silver-level club. Region 630’s EXTRA is a Side-by-Side program—players selected for EXTRA do not play Rec simultaneously. Our league play is through the Southern California Extra Development Soccer League (SCEDSL) with teams from Sections 1, 10 & 11.

Team Formation

  • Open tryouts identify roughly the top 15–20% in each single-year age group.
  • Age levels: U9–U13.
  • Tryouts occur after the Fall season; dates/times posted on the Region 630 site.
  • Register for Fall AYSO as usual. If selected, players are transferred to EXTRA; an additional EXTRA fee is paid upon acceptance.

Coaching & Development

  • EXTRA coaches are selected by committee based on coaching quality, player-first culture, and commitment to growth.
  • Training with comparably skilled players accelerates learning; 10–12 competitive Fall games.
  • Optional camps, clinics, and goalkeeper training; many teams join AYSO and/or club tournaments.

Scheduling & Travel

  • Games typically on Saturdays; some Sundays.
  • About half of games at home, half in neighboring communities—no extreme travel.
  • Players are encouraged to play both Fall & Spring for continuity and growth.
