Congrats RSM AYSO630 10U Boys Extra Team!!!

Our RSM AYSO 630 10U Boys Extra team participated in the Mission Viejo Classic this weekend, coached by Jared Boone and Brendan Dugan. We were the ONLY AYSO team on hand with everyone else being a CLUB team, 40+ teams in attendance.

Our boys went out their and laid their hearts on the lines in 102+ temps Saturday and Sunday. Game one on Saturday was a hard fought 2-1 win against JUSA Select. Setting the tone that we were serious and here to play. Game two Saturday was a 2-4 loss in the last minutes of the game against CPL CAPO FC, a team with boys strong, large, and with many years of experience behind them as a team. That did not stop our boys! They came back Sunday, down to only 8 players with a chip on their shoulder. This means we had 1 sub while all the club teams had 4-5 subs. Keep in mind this tournament played club rules, not AYSO. You subbed when needed, there were no quarters like many AYSO kids get use to.

They went into Sunday’s game one ready to make RSM proud. They showed Mission Viejo FC that we eat more then Avocado toast in RSM, dominating the game from the second the whistle was blown. With the 4-2 win in the morning game, it secured their spot in the championship!!! This would be a rematch against CAPO FC.

Our boys had a short two hour break to be back on the field when the sun would be at its hottest. Our boys took to the field standing tall ready to represent RSM. Ready to show off all the work they put in during practices these last couple of weeks. The entire game was a nail biter in temps over 104F. Our boys came out of the gate fighting to set the tone of the match. Regulation ended with a 5-5 tie!!!!

Both sides jumping up and down with joy and encouragement. With that tie it was time for penalty kicks to be the decider, 6 boys from each team and their goalie walk back onto the field. Something club teams are comfortable with and experienced with. This was ALL NEW to our little AYSO EXTRA team. They didn’t give up though. They wanted to win, that’s why they fought and got that 5-5 tie against a team that’s played together for years and have played in multiple tournaments each year together. This was only the second tournament ever for half our team.

They lined up and one by one took their shot. First one blocked, second one in!, third one nailing the goal post, each one building up the pressure!! Couple of them pound their way right into the goal. Both teams go through all their players. It was still tied. It came down to the goalies!!!! Our goalie takes his shot, it’s a catch by CAPO. CAPO takes their shot, our goalie dives, ball hits his right hand and BOOM, it rolls off the tip of his fingers….the game is over as the ball rolls across the line and CAPO starts celebrating.
